What is Base64?

Base64 is a way to encode binary data as ASCII text. Converting an image to Base64 lets you embed it directly in HTML (<img src="data:image/png;base64,...">) or CSS, reducing HTTP requests. Note that Base64 encoding increases data size by about 33%, so it is best for small images.
